An atypical case of congenital melanocytic nevus on the thigh in a young child

A 3-year-old female child was brought by her parents with a congenital pigmented lesion over the thigh region, present since birth and gradually increasing in size and hair density with age. There was no history of trauma, topical drug application, infection, or similar lesions in the family. The child had normal growth and developmental milestones, with no associated systemic abnormalities. Cutaneous examination revealed a well-defined, irregularly bordered hyperpigmented patch over the anterolateral aspect of the distal thigh, extending from the inguinal fold to the upper thigh. The lesion showed dense, coarse terminal hair overlying the pigmented skin, with no ulceration, nodularity, or signs of inflammation. Based on the congenital onset, progressive enlargement proportional to the child's growth, associated hyperpigmentation, and hypertrichosis, a diagnosis of congenital melanocytic nevus was made. The patient was referred to the dermatology department for further evaluation and long-term follow-up.
