IATSIC best free paper communication: Dr Alain Chichom

Dr. Alain Chichom Mefire from Cameroon is the first African Surgeon to be awarded the International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC) Price for best free paper communication. This price was presented at the 2013 World Congress of Surgery in Helsinki, Finland. His paper is titled “Compliance with the WHO/IATSIC trauma care guidelines in district hospitals in a low-income country: a regional prospective survey in Cameroon”. Dr Chichom is Senior University Lecturer and Head of Department of Surgery and Obstetric and Gynecology at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Buea, Cameroon. Dr Chichom is also a prolific author of the Pan African Medical Journal.

PAMJ opens office in Cameroon

On 19 December 2013, the managing editor and co-founder of PAMJ, Dr Landry Tsague officially inaugurated the new PAMJ Cameroon office in Yaoundé. This official opening was followed by a 5 days training of the new staff on PAMJ´s editorial and publishing processes. The Cameroon office currently employs five staff, 3 editorial assistant, one finance officer and an IT support staff. The PAMJ office is set to become a major production office for the journal and serve as a base for technological transfer in modern journal publishing. The Cameroon Office is also set to play a key role in the expansion of the journal activities in capacity building and liaison with research institutions in Cameroon and in West Africa.
